!!!!!BREAKING NEWS!!!!! The antique miquelet flinlock pistol pictured above was awarded a NRA silver medal at the 138th NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits May 17th, 2009. There are a maximum of three medals awarded for the finest miniature firearms displayed each year and I am very happy and proud to have won one! I also discovered in talking to the NRA judges that this is at least 100 years earlier than I had initially thought and dates to about 1680 to 1720!!! This is absolutely one of the finest miniature firearms I have ever had the joy to handle! An exquisit antique miquelet flintlock pistol probably made between 1680 and 1720. Unmarked, maker unknown, but probably Italian. 4 5/16" long overall with a 2 1/2" smoothbore barrel of about .22 caliber. The stock is gold plated brass. The steel lockplate and barrel are highly polished and finished in a bright fire blue. The balance of the steel parts are finished in the white. Exceptional workmanship with beautiful executed engraving on the hammer, pan, frizzen, triggerguard, hammer spring, frizzen spring, and nosecap. This exact piece pictured in Louis Winant's book "Firearms Curiosa" on page 44, plate 37, and written about on page 42 when it was a part of the Dr. W. R. Funderburg collection. This book was first published in 1955. Winant's description is as follows: "At the top of the uncased pistols is a very fine all-metal piece with a beautifully executed miquelet lock. The copper hue of the frame, the bright steel of the lock, the intense blue of the barrel, combine to make this outstanding. The piece is 4 1/4" overall". I also have an old black & white photo from the 1976 NRA Annual Convention that shows this exact piece when it was in the Robert Ables Collection and another black & white photo of this piece at the 1967 NRA Annual Convention when it was in the Sam Weill collection. I am also told it was at one time in the Harry Knode collection. The person I bought it from bought it from Dr. Paul Kopsch several years ago, so this piece has been in some of the finest miniature collections ever to exist! Complete with a slide lock walnut casing, French fit with a olive green felt lining. This is a Apache knuckle duster combination weapon by master miniaturist David Kucer of Montreal, Canada. It is a six shot revolver, brass knuckles, and dagger all in one! Folded it measure only 1 3/8" long. With the brass knuckles handle and dagger extended it measures 2 5/8" long. 100% fully functional. The cylinder, trigger, screws and springs are blued and show 100% finish. The frame, knuckles, and dagger are nickel plated and show some wear through to the underlying brass. I'd say the nickel is about 70%. Looks like it may have been purposefully aged. Anyway, from a photo I don't think you could tell it from a full size gun in similar condition. Mechanically perfect. Serial #5 marked on the frame and the knuckles. D.Kucer marked on the underside of the frame froward of the trigger. Complete with a blue leatherette hinged casing with push button latch. The interior French fit in blue velvet.
